The Orchard of Hope ~ Bee's Hope

It’s the first Monday of 2017 and I use it to have a look at what gives me hope and what I have concluded from the changes in 2016.

I have warned and written a lot through 2016 about how the political developments in Europe and the United States remind me of Germany in the 1930’s and 40’s.

Obviously I am not the only one. To my surprise Prince Charles had similar thoughts about 2016 which he expressed in his Christmas message.

What scares me the most is that countries who have faught for freedom, diversity and democracy in WW2 now try to go a similar nationalistic, protectionistic and restrictive path that Hitler and his Nazi party had chosen 80 or so years ago.

It also scares me that people who believe this trend to be the right way do not or do not want to recognise the similarities.

The United Nations and the European Union were created to avoid developments like that and to end war forever.

However, the world has changed profoundly and it looks to me that the Western world and its citizens have forgotten that aim of both institutions. They feel restricted by them and both institutions do not seem to be able to find new ways of manifesting these goals.

When I think of Nazi Germany I not only think of those who followed Hitler like sheep or those who commited crimes.

I think of those who recognised the dangers early and warned the world as well as those who fought the Nazis from within Germany.

It is authors like Kurt Tucholsky, the members of the White RoseGeorg Elser,  the army men of the 20th July plot and countless unnamed people who kept up humanity in Germany throughout those dark years.

Reality stood against their efforts. Their actions looked hopeless against the power of the Nazi regime but guess what?

Their actions were one part that changed Germany and the world back to freedom and democracy one little step at a time.

I believe you do not need to do heroic things to fight against evil. All you need to do is stay true to yourself and to your values in every day life. All you need to do is to be kind to yourself and to those around you.

That seed of hope and life affirming action will grow like weeds through tarmac. It can’t be stopped! I fully believe this to be true!

It is not an easy path though. It means I stand out. It means I go against the mass. It means I sometimes stand alone.

Still many humans had & have chosen and will choose this path. And when it comes down to it you are not alone when you choose it.

I have pondered a lot what to make of Brexit and the president-elect of the United States.

I have come to the conclusion that I cannot change the situation. All I can do is to use my talent of writing to keep up hope and to create a more positive vision of our future.

What all of us do with it is down to every individual.

However, if you want to add your seed of positivity to my “Orchard of Hope” then feel free to send me a guest post with links to your blog and social media links and you will find a place here. 🙂

In this sense: Bring it on 2017!!!!!

  1. Well, Prince Charles should know, his family are German, after all.

    1. Feel invited to write a guest post about your hope or whatever keeps you going in 2017 🙂

      1. Should I find myself with any spare time in the near future, I’ll do that

  2. While the rhetoric of our election saddened me, I don’t expect us to go down a destructive path. I expect the pendulum to stop on Jan 20th, and to swing back for a while, but I have a great faith in the American people. I understand thd frustration behind this election but I also understand the global economy in which we exist. I don’t think we can change too much, even if we want to.
