Lean Against… and Listen ~ 5Nov16

Ah, November is here. We are selling mince pies since two months and still hot cross buns. What the F…?! I do not get why British supermarkets do not get the idea of seasonality. Works well in Germany but well greed seems to be a strong power. On a different note though: Let’s get Stream of Consciousness and write:

I quote Kasey Mathews from the WANA group “Write to Heal” for this writing prompt:

“With paper and pen, or computer handy, lean back in your chair, or against the wall, or a sofa, etc., close your eyes and imagine you are sitting under a large tree with your back resting against the trunk. On the other side of the tree, a Storyteller has come to sit down and also rest against the tree trunk. With eyes still closed, just listen. Wait for the Storyteller to begin his or her story. When you hear it begin, simply write down all that you hear. “

Those were the days.

Christmas stuff was sold only at Christmas. You could really look forward to it. You were expecting cookies, mulled wine and mince pies from October onwards and were looking forward to it. If you were lucky you even got snow.

Even though where I come from we didn’t necessarily have snow in November or December but certainly from January until April. Snow! I can’t even remember how it feels like. The last I saw was in Winter 2012/13. I loved it.

In those days (not 2012/13 but “a little” earlier 😉 ) you looked forward to the season. Yes, it was a lot of preparation and some present shopping but it didn’t go overboard like it is nowadays.

Ah, this changes into my yearly “I hate Christmas today” rant. Sorry, my dear readers, but it bugs me. As I said above we are selling mince pies since September but still are baking hot cross buns. Last year I had a customer asking in December if we’d had hot cross buns. I must have looked at her like she’s from Mars.

Why on earth can’t you just have hot cross buns around Easter? Why do you need to eat it all year round? It’s nothing special if you have it all year round. Do you think that is why people are so unhappy? They do not have that experience of looking forward to something because you only have it at a certain time of the year.

There is nothing wrong with restricting yourself. But I’m losing my train of thought. I am going to have a holiday soon. One week in November and another one the week that goes into December. That will be heaven to get some rest before the annual Christmas crazy begins. And no I am not writing anymore about it now. I leave that for December when I need to vent some more frustration!
