Song Lyric Sunday ~ First Aid Kid ~ My Silver Lining ~14Aug16

Just a short message today (or at least so it was planned 🙂 ).

I have been at work and it was busy as it is Carnival week where I work. The actual carnival will be on Wednesday but as it is the holidays lots of people are here anyway and all of them need shopping. Bless them.

Helen asked us yesterday do find a song that is new to us. I don’t usually follow her prompts not because I do not like them but because I am scheduling my posts about 4 weeks in advance so prompts are not there yet.

Well, I am considering to change my blogging scheme a little and schedule some posts but leave some space for daily, weekly etc prompts. We’ll see :-).

Lately, I feel like I am in a constant deja vu when it comes to music. Songs turn up in the top ten or on a music TV channel and I feel like I heard them before. At first, I thought most of them might be cover versions of old songs until I realised that they are actually songs from adverts.

It looks like advertising companies lately use newcomers and their songs for adverts and with that those newcomers become famous. I stumbled like this over the Kongos, Clean Bandit & Jess Glynne and Royal Blood.

My newest discovery is First Aid Kit though with their song “My Silver Lining” which features in the rather strange advert for the Renaut Kadjar.

I really liked the song and so I investigated and stumbled over the Swedish duo First Aid Kit. The singers are sisters Klara and Johanna who started their singing career in 2007 by uploading their songs to MySpace. Wikipedia writes about their further path:

“They also sent a demo of their song “Tangerine” to the Swedish radio.[15] It immediately went on air and was listed as one of the best songs of the summer 2007,[16] which led to requests for live performances and even some offers from record companies. The first official performance as First Aid Kit was at PUNKTmedis library in Stockholm.[8] More gigs followed but as Klara, who was then 14, was still at school, they could play only during weekends.

Meanwhile, their younger brother attended the same kindergarten as the daughter of Karin Dreijer Andersson, half of Swedish electronic duo The Knife and also known as Fever Ray. Their mother asked Dreijer to check out her daughters’ songs on MySpace. After doing so, and seeing them play live, Dreijer said that the duo had to be saved from bad deals with the industry. It was decided to sign them to Rabid Records, a label co-owned by The Knife with conditions that allowed the duo to have full control over their music and album art.[10]”

So somehow they ended up on our TV screen and for me have become a proper earworm. (Not sure you say that in English. In German it means a song that you can’t get out of your head).

But to no longer tease you with information: Here is the song and the Lyrics:

Lyrics via A-Z Lyrics

“My Silver Lining”

I don’t want to wait anymore I’m tired of looking for answers
Take me some place where there’s music and there’s laughter
I don’t know if I’m scared of dying but I’m scared of living too fast, too slow
Regret, remorse, hold on, oh no I’ve got to go
There’s no starting over, no new beginnings, time races on
And you’ve just gotta keep on keeping on
Gotta keep on going, looking straight out on the road
Can’t worry ’bout what’s behind you or what’s coming for you further up the road
I try not to hold on to what is gone, I try to do right what is wrong
I try to keep on keeping on
Yeah I just keep on keeping on

I hear a voice calling
Calling out for me
These shackles I’ve made in an attempt to be free
Be it for reason, be it for love
I won’t take the easy road

I’ve woken up in a hotel room, my worries as big as the moon
Having no idea who or what or where I am
Something good comes with the bad
A song’s never just sad
There’s hope, there’s a silver lining
Show me my silver lining
Show me my silver lining

I hear a voice calling
Calling out for me
These shackles I’ve made in an attempt to be free
Be it for reason, be it for love
I won’t take the easy road

I won’t take the easy road
The easy road, the easy road

Show me my silver lining, I try to keep on keeping on
Show me my silver lining, I try to keep on keeping on
Show me my silver lining, I try to keep on keeping on
Show me my silver lining, I try to keep on keeping on

  1. This is the second band I’ve written down today that I’m going to check out further. I loved this song so much! It’s amazing to me how much great music is out there to be discovered. It makes me so happy I started this and that I have amazing fellow bloggers who share music each week with me, following the prompt or not. Thanks, Bee. This one was truly amazing! 🙂
