Song Lyric Sunday: Dream On

July 2016

How poems can change their meaning when the situation changes. And the same counts for songs. When I wrote this poem I was thinking about our creative powers which can create universes and sometimes even change the world.

Today though I am more thinking about how the anger and frustration of many disadvantaged British people will change the world. Because Brexit doesn’t stop in front of their doorstep. Unfortunately, today’s world is so much connected that any decision one country takes will affect all others.

And the Nazareth song is most likely one about a personal break-up but I believe it fits perfectly for Brexit 😉

Dream on

we dream
on our
little
big
planet
and
create
a
whole
universe!

Lyrics by A-Z Lyrics

“Dream On”

Dream on
Though it’s hard to tell
Though you’re foolin’ yourself
Dream on

You can hide away
There is nothing to say, so dream on
Dream on
Though it’s hard to tell
Though you’re foolin’ yourself, dream on

You can laugh at me because I’m crying
You can tell your friends how much
I begged you to stay
You can live your fantasy without me
But you’ll never know how much I needed you

Dream on
It’s so easy for you
Though I’m broken in two, dream on
Dream on
You can never see
What you’re doing to me, so dream on

You can cross your heart and still be lyin’
You can count the reasons why you’ve thrown it away
You can dream your life away without me
But you’ll never know how much I needed you

You can laugh at me because I’m crying
You can tell your friends how much
I begged you to stay
You can live your fantasy without me
But you’ll never know how much I needed you

Dream on
It’s so easy for you
Though I’m broken in two, dream on
Dream on
You can never see
What you’re doin’ to me, so dream on
Dream on
Though it’s hard to tell
Though you’re foolin’ yourself, dream on
Dream on

  1. The lyrics are poignant and fit the situation perfectly. I also loved your poem – so simple, but so beautiful! Song Lyric Sunday isn’t about a theme (even though I post one every week) – it’s way more about sharing music that we love. Sometimes, we just have to share a song that fits what’s happening in our lives and that’s why I leave it open. Thanks for sharing and for participating, Bee. I always love your contributions! 🙂
