Another poetic form I had tried but left alone pretty soon. I start to feel though I have to try again. Here just the old post from February 2013. (Yes, I admit it is not Monday 🙂 ).

February 2013

The Choka is a form of Japanese poetry related to the Haiku but as far as I could find out it is older.

It is not supposed to rhyme but you are to adhere to the pattern of syllables.

According to it is alternating lines of 5 and 7 syllables ending with an extra of 7 syllables.

According to The Poets Garret its original form looked either like this 5 7 7 5 7 7 5…. or this 5 7 5 5 7 5 ….

Well, I suppose it is up to you which one you prefer. The only other thing: It can be as long as you want it to be :-).

And here is my take:

Not inspired

Not inspired yet

Monday morning cold and grey

I fear snow coming

and more fears crawl up my spine

Nothing seems steady

This life of mine still a mess

Darkness growing here

deep down in my lonely heart

but then I see the sun rise
